Tim Pepper

I'm Tim Pepper. I've spent over a decade in software delivery starting as a software engineer and most recently working as a director, leading commercial and technical delivery for a healthcare platform.

I write about leadership, engineering practice, and what it actually looks like to lead teams through change.

How I Help Teams

I focus on building inclusive, high-performing teams while delivering complex software that actually works. I've led delivery across healthcare, retail, and logistics from re-engineering legacy monoliths into modern microservices, to scaling eCommerce platforms into international markets, to leading technical teams building secure, compliance-heavy healthcare integrations.

My technical background is broad: Java and Spring Boot, JavaScript/TypeScript full-stack, Vue.js, .NET, Kotlin and Swift. I've worked primarily in Azure, with time in AWS and Cloudflare. Lately, I've been tinkering with AI to see what's actually useful versus what's just hype.

But the thing I keep coming back to is people. Whether it's coaching engineers, running communities of practice, or leading teams through restructures and acquisitions, I care most about creating environments where people can do their best work and I think that's exactly what makes the technical delivery work too.

Community & Inclusion

I'm a big EDI advocate with a focus on gender and LGBTQ+ inclusion. I've led diversity and inclusion initiatives across two organisations, been an active voice in the Leeds LGBTQIA+ network of networks, and I'm a board member for WILD Digital, working to make tech more welcoming and accessible. In 2024, I won the Leeds Digital Festival EDI Award and the BJSS "Get Involved" Legend Award, recognition I'm genuinely proud of, because this work isn't a side project for me; it's central to how I lead.

I'm also a big video game and music nerd with an MA in philosophy. Love some live comedy, you might find me behind the mic or on stage if you're lucky.

Pepper Headspace is my attempt to think out loud. I want a place to reflect on leadership lessons, share what I'm learning (and unlearning), explore technical rabbit holes, and occasionally talk about the weird projects and interests that don't fit neatly into a LinkedIn profile.
